Nyad Should Celebrate Success

Diana Nyad, who is celebrating her 63rd birthday today, has many reasons to celebrate success. Although unable to complete the 103-mile swim between Havana and Key West, Nyad got half-way there while facing the constant challenges of shark-infested waters, paralyzing stings of jelly fish, and stormy weather.  A marathon swimmer since 1970, Nyad swam for just under 42 hours in her fourth attempt to make the historic crossing.

As she said on Good Morning America, the journey is more important than the destination.  “I didn’t get that final moment, but what a magnificent experience it all was.”
