Wrinkles Be Gone!

It seems that lotions & potions can’t really eliminate wrinkles but they can help minimize and discourage those wicked lines from taking over a beautiful face.  And since I’m not willing to do a surgical resculpting or even explore Botox, I’m forever on a quest for the latest and greatest cream, gel, serum, or lotion.

My favorite line of magical face soothers & smoothers has been Ozmotics, a luxurious line of products available at Nordstroms.  However, this little luxury obviously comes with a price.  So, with the economy affecting us all, I’ve been in search of other options – high in benefits, reasonable in price.  According to the experts, the value-priced brands can be as effective as the luxury lines.

Some of the primary nutrients to look for in an effective wrinkle cream include vitamin B3 (niacinamide), an antioxidant that helps with elasticity, as well as vitamin E, retinol or tretinoin (a form of vitamin A) which is the main ingredient in Retin-A.  Take care with retinol products as they can cause irritation when first used and may increase sun sensitivity.

Consumer Reports has reviewed many of the main-stream products found in department stores, drug stores and other major retailers.  Olay Regenerist tops their picks for both a wrinkle cream – Olay Regenerist Regeneration Serum ($20) – and a moisturizer – Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating Lotion SPF 15 ($20).

Taking second place in the wrinkle-cream category is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream – Night ($13).  The second-best moisturizer is Cetaphil Moisturing Cream ($13).
